It costs almost as much as the new Mustang.

It has been one year since we reported that Ford Performance plans to sell the supercharged V8 of the Mustang Shelby GT500 as a crate engine. It's not as powerful as Chevrolet's ridiculous 1,004-horsepower 10.4-liter crate engine, but Ford's 5.2-liter Predator V8 is not inferior. It produces 760 hp and 625 lb-ft of torque, enough to propel the GT500 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds. Now, custom manufacturers can install this powerful power plant in any project car they are developing. But the price of supercharged V8 is very high. In fact, it costs almost as much as a brand new Ford Mustang Coupe.

The supercharged V8 code-named M-6007-M52SC retails for $25,995. This makes it cheaper than Chevrolet's 1,004-horsepower engine, although the latter was recently discounted to less than $30,000. Features of the Ford V8 include Eaten TVS R2650 supercharger, high-strength aluminum block, forged steel crankshaft and connecting rod. Other OE components purchased include exhaust manifolds, alternators, starters, and supercharger belts. The air conditioner compressor, water pump and alternator belt are also installed, so the V8 is equipped with all the necessary mechanical parts. The packaged weight reaches 665 pounds-not bad for such a strong beast.

Part of the purchase includes a two-year/24,000-mile warranty. It is worth noting that the price of V8 does not include various electronic parts such as wiring harnesses and ECUs, as well as control packages, so the total cost exceeds the number reflected above. However, this is an amazing power plant, not only powerful, but also very attractive. Of course, if your budget is not that long, maybe you can consider using an electric e-crate motor like Ford Eluminator. It costs less than $4,000 and can provide 281 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque. This is a big deal, but Ford recently stated that the e-crate motors have been sold out. Of course, it doesn't have Predator's booming V8 soundtrack, and it's difficult to price for it.
